There is a good reason to leave a little space in your autumn calendar—and in your shopping bag.

The Birmingham Farmers Market End-of-Season Celebration takes place Sunday, October 25, from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. at Public Parking Lot 6, 660 North Old Woodward Avenue.

It is a final chance this season to turn a downtown market visit into the kind of Sunday morning you wish you made time for more often.

Come on your own for an unhurried browse, or invite friends and give the catch-up a starting point.

Begin with a little breathing room

If the weather suits, start with a short walk before shopping.

Leave the headphones in your pocket for a few minutes, look up at the trees and let the morning unfold without trying to fit in every errand.

There is no need to arrive at a particular minute after the 9 a.m. opening; choose a time that works for your group within the posted hours.

Bring a reusable bag, a layer for an outdoor morning and a small list of what you would actually enjoy taking home.

A little planning leaves more room for a discovery.

Shop for autumn, with room for a surprise

The market’s official page describes Michigan-grown produce, meat and dairy, fresh foods, flowers, plants and artisan goods, with produce dependent on local growing patterns.

Rather than arriving with a guaranteed shopping list of particular varieties, let the day’s stalls guide you.

Looking for a front-porch accent or a simple table centerpiece?

Ask what pumpkins, squash or seasonal arrangements vendors have available, and choose colors and sizes that suit your space.

For the kitchen, ask which produce is ready to use now and which items will keep.

A recommendation from the person selling it can be more useful than another ambitious recipe saved on your phone.

If a favorite stall is participating, ask where to find its products after the outdoor season ends.

That is a practical way to keep a market discovery in your routine.

Let the celebration set the pace

The organizer advertises Halloween-themed festivities, live music, food trucks and children’s activities.

Its posted October 25 music schedule lists Weekend Comeback, with schedules subject to change.

Build in time to listen, look around and enjoy the gathering rather than treating it as a quick grocery stop.

Food and vendor selections can change, so consider cider, doughnuts or other treats a pleasant find if available rather than a promise.

Keep the conversation going over brunch

The downtown dining directory lists Toast at 203 Pierce Street and Commonwealth Cafe at 300 Hamilton Row as possible follow-up stops.

Check current Sunday hours, menus and seating arrangements directly before settling on one.

Agree on brunch plans early if you are meeting several friends, then leave the details of the market browse pleasantly loose.

One person might find something for dinner, another a small gift, and someone else may simply enjoy being out together.

A few details make the morning easier

Downtown’s parking guidance says municipal structures and meters are free on Sundays.

Choose a parking location separately from the lot hosting the market, and pay attention to posted restrictions.

Check the event page for updates before leaving, especially if the weather changes.

Then bring your bag, bring someone you have been meaning to see, and give the market season an enjoyable farewell.

Does anyone know if Weekend Comeback is playing the whole time? The schedule could change, so I'll check the event page before heading out.

Free Sunday parking is helpful, but Lot 6 is where the market is happening. The reminder to park somewhere else is worth noting.

The 9 a.m. To 2 p.m. Window leaves plenty of time to browse. I like the reminder to bring a bag and dress for the weather.
