Birmingham’s next breakfast conversation may start with a bagel.

Detroit Metro Times reported September 1 that Bev’s Bagels planned a location at 283 Hamilton Row, bringing chef Max Sussman’s organic sourdough bagel concept to downtown Birmingham.

The report pointed to a September opening, but did not give an exact date. As of our October 4 check, the company’s official location page did not confirm a Birmingham address or operating schedule.

That makes this an opening to watch, rather than a place we can tell you is already serving breakfast.

What makes this a tempting addition

Bev’s existing menu goes well beyond choosing plain or everything.

Its official menu lists options such as za’atar and spicy furikake bagels, along with schmears including chili crisp and roasted garlic with scallion.

The Gambler breakfast sandwich combines egg, hash brown, ham, cheddar, hot sauce and spicy mayonnaise. There are also fish-based sandwiches and options that move a bagel firmly into lunch territory.

Those examples come from the company’s current general menu. They are a taste of the concept, not a confirmed Birmingham opening menu.

For residents whose ideal morning involves coffee and something substantial, the appeal is easy to understand: a place where breakfast can be as simple or as involved as the day allows.

A location to keep an eye on

The reported Hamilton Row address would put the concept in downtown Birmingham rather than requiring a trip to its existing Detroit shop.

Metro Times also reported plans for Birmingham-specific additions. Since the local opening and final menu have not been confirmed through the company’s current location page, we are leaving those details on the watch list.

Restaurant openings can move between an announcement and the first day of service. A projected month is useful news, but it is not the same thing as a confirmed open door.

That distinction matters if you are making a special trip or inviting friends for breakfast.

Follow the opening, then plan the first visit

The useful next step is to watch Bev’s official updates for a Birmingham opening announcement, local hours and an order page identifying the correct location.

Once those details appear, the first question is an enjoyable one: do you start with a familiar bagel and schmear, or choose a sandwich you would not make at home?

The company’s existing Detroit counter appears in the accompanying brand photograph; it should not be mistaken for the prospective Birmingham shop.

We will be looking for the local storefront and confirmed service details before calling this a new place to eat.

For now, share the Hamilton Row news with the friend who always has an opinion about bagels. This could become a new downtown breakfast stop, and it is worth knowing what has been announced—and what still needs confirmation.
