Your next dinner debate has an unusually good answer: let Birmingham’s chefs settle it, one burger at a time.

BirminghamBURGER is back through October 31, turning downtown restaurants into contenders for a title diners help decide. Order an event burger, rate its taste, creativity and presentation, and your dinner becomes part of the competition.

This is a month-long excuse to try somewhere you have walked past a dozen times. It also gives the friend who always orders the same thing a reason to branch out.

Pick your first contender

The official lineup includes Adachi’s “Look What You Made Me Do,” Hazel’s “Surf the Earth” and Streetside Seafood’s “Buffalo Shrimp Burger.”

That last entry is a reminder that this contest reaches beyond the standard beef-and-cheese formula. The Townsend Hotel’s Rugby Grille also lists a salmon burger, while Elie’s contributes a Mediterranean entry.

For a seasonal angle, Birmingham Pub has a harvest-themed burger. Market North End, Sal’s and Tallulah are among the other restaurants on the organizer’s roster.

The event page includes individual burger photographs and descriptions, so you can choose your first contender before making the reservation.

Make it a friendly dinner challenge

Pick two or three restaurants to visit on different evenings during October. Give each friend a turn choosing the next stop, then compare notes after ordering.

Would you go back for the burger itself? Did the combination make sense? Was it the kind of dinner you would recommend without mentioning the contest?

Those are useful conversation starters while the official rating system focuses on taste, creativity and presentation. You can disagree with your friends and still cast your own rating.

There is no reason to turn the whole month into one enormous food crawl. One dinner counts as participation, and a second contender gives you something to compare.

The details that matter

The competition runs October 1–31, 2026, at participating downtown Birmingham restaurants. Check the official lineup, then contact your chosen restaurant about service hours, reservations, the event burger’s price and any dietary needs.

Order the competition entry specifically; a restaurant’s regular burger may be a different item. Use the event site’s rating controls when you are ready to give your verdict.

A weekday meal could work just as well as a weekend outing. For downtown visits, the municipal garages offer their first two hours free Monday through Saturday.

The easiest invitation to send is also the best reason to go: “Pick a burger, pick a night, and let’s see who gets our vote.”
